Personality

Gaius is a charismatic, extrovert person who has always been popular, especially with the ladies.  He has a particularly winning smile.  His rise has been swift, for he is a talented Fighter and Cleric of KOROS also, and he has attained the Championship of his House and the World’s most powerful High Priesthood of KOROS at a comparatively young age.

As a result he has become somewhat conceited.  But one does not rise so far in the Priesthood of KOROS without learning humility and the ability to get on with people, and so he is generally well-regarded.  He has even been tipped as the first non-SARAN Emperor - a rumour which he has quietly encouraged, but he well realises the formidable difficulties he would face.

Gaius is something of a hedonist.  He is wealthy, and lives in style.  He is one of the best-dressed men in Valdran, and is widely acknowledged as throwing the best parties.

Whilst he has brought style and popularity to his Offices, he has not shone intellectually, or set an example by hard work. Gaius is an accomplished delegator, but not a great supervisor. He has little time for details.

Past History / Background Information (Memories)

Gaius is the eldest son of one of the richest and most powerful Satril families.  His father is Head of House. He disappointed his parents when he dropped out of SARAN Clerical training to take up the worship of KOROS, but his subsequent success has made up for that.  The Lord High Executionership was a natural choice for his high office, being popular with the masses and a traditional favourite of KOROS worshippers.  The uniform is also rather impressive (although he prefers not to wear the hood).

Gaius is unmarried, although he has had many affairs (none of any great duration or seriousness) with some of the most beautiful women in Valdrea, and elsewhere.  One of his current liaisons is with Julia of Aven, wife of Castor, Champion of Bavenne, and mother of the empress Julia.  He has been trying to extricate himself from that attachment for some time, but she is awkwardly keen on him, and he has to be careful to avoid any scandal.

He has had a few scandals already in the Temple of KOROS under his stewardship.  Not that he has been involved personally, but he has found it difficult to avoid all responsibility.  Several Clerics have been found to have been “selling” karma, and others have taken sexual advantage of worshippers.  Gaius has dealt severely with the offenders, although privately disposed to forgive them, and he hopes he has made examples of them.

Gaius is an Honorary Member of The Assassins’ Guild of Valdrea; an honour of which he is particularly proud, as it is awarded to only a few Lord High Executioners.

Possessions

In addition to those possessions shown on his spreadsheet, Gaius has a modest waterfront palace in the Satril Quarter of  the Sacred City of Valdran and a small stud farm in East Zarak Province where he keeps his horses (including some prize racehorses).  He is entitled to use the High Priest's Mansion in the precincts of the High Temple of KOROS in the Sacred City of Valdran, but only uses it for formal receptions connected with his Priesthood.  His family seat is a large country estate in the rolling farmland of Satril Province (where his mother lives, his father having his own townhouse in Valdran), but Gaius makes greater use of the family hunting lodge in the Greenwood (where some of his wilder parties are thrown).  He holds smaller parties on his yacht, which is moored outside his palace in Valdran or wherever he last left it on the Lake or the River Alma.  Although he appears to be very wealthy, and will come into a large inheritance when his father finally dies, he lives beyond his means, and is in debt to a number of bankers in Valdran, Satro, Hapral and Kuntax.  He does receive bribes from the condemned and legitimate cuts from various sources at the Temple, but a careful examination of the accounts of the High Temple of KOROS would result in some difficult questions for him to answer.

Victory Conditions

Play in character.

You must decide for yourself what objectives your character would set himself in the present crisis, and you must then seek to achieve them, in the same way as he would.
