Piratical Plots

On the 13th day of the month of Sarm in the Year 2500 a Dungeon expedition from Pirate Island, led by Firrin, a threat to the then Pirate Captain, and including a couple of other troublesome plotters, arrived at the Altar of Toorm to bury treasure.  But the Captain had leaked a rumour of their expedition to Fort Venture and Dwarf Hold, and they encountered expeditions from both Fort Venture and Dwarf Hold, which defeated them.  The Captain, being a powerful ChaosMaster, had also felt there would be a significant Chaotic manifestation there.  So he lured three parties he considered expendable to the Altar.  It was a gamble, bringing powerful forces of Law to encounter the manifestation, but he was a ChaosMaster, and after all he was not going himself.

One of the Captain's trusted followers in the party, Hópi, did escape the massacre at the Altar, but he did not return to Pirate Island.  Ogral's Bay, the rendezvous point, was guarded by a Dwarvish warship, so the Pirates did not land to try and rescue any survivors.  The treasure was lost, but the Pirates had plenty of treasure, and the Captain only collected it because it annoyed other people to lose it.  More disappointingly, he heard nothing more of the Chaotic manifestation.

Three years later, in Sarm 2503, the current Pirate Captain again had a hunch that Chaos would manifest at the Altar.  This time he determined to make a better job of dealing with the situation than his predecessor.  The trap would be for the Lawfuls, not his Pirates.  So he picked a strong party from amongst his followers, gave them a few possibly useful items from the Pirate cache, and set them in ambush in the ChaosDungeons interwoven around the Toorm complex.  They happened to include some people with a bit of Mastery of Chaos and a Planist or two, so he was hopeful he might see some of them again for a report on the Chaotic manifestation, and hopefully the scalps and magic items of the Lawfuls.
