Dynor and the Western Greenwoods

Dynor is the capital city of Greenwoods Province in the North West of the Valdrean Empire.  It is an important market for the produce of the farmlands leading down to the River Heppo and for the timber and firs from the Greenwoods, and is at the Western end of one of the few roads that leads through the Greenwood, via the villages of Leeg, Vren and Qurrig to Satril Province.  The local speciality is wild boar from the forest.  It has also gained a certain notoriety for the strength of its Thieves' Guild, despite the efforts of various Governors over the years to stamp them out or curtail their activities.

Despite being within the Valdrean Empire, the Greenwoods are largely wilderness; an area of rolling hills clad in coniferous forest, dotted with lakes, streams and marshes.  They have been extensively logged around their fringes, with some areas cleared for farming, but their interior is left to hunters, trappers, bandits and monsters.  On their Eastern edge, in Satril Province, the Nobles of the House of Satril have over the years built many hunting lodges, some of which are almost stately homes in their own right, others of which have fallen into ruin, abandoned by their former owners.  As an outlier of the North West Forest, the Greenwoods are rumoured to harbour mysteries in their depths, which are said to be capable of inducing the "Trance of the Trees" in those who become lost there.

In the metropolises of Valdran and Hapral, Dynor and Greenwoods Province have something of a reputation as a provincial backwater, and are the butt of jokes about the simplicity of the locals.  The Provincial Governorship is not an Office favoured by the ambitious amongst the Nobility.  The reality is that it this a hardy, rural area, whose people look out for their family and neighbours and are distrustful of strangers; especially those who treat them with arrogance or disdain.
