The Land of Flerrig

Far Hills

In the Underworld Land of Flerrig the Overworld Mountains of the Dwarves spill over the Edge of the World as the Kum-Valga (Mounts' End).  To their North the Zirak-Zāram (Silver Lake) also flows over the Edge from its counterpart the Bilak-Zāram (Golden Lake) in the Overworld, and to their South the Eastern Undersea flows over from the Eastern Ocean.  The Land of Flerrig itself is centred on the lowland area around the River Cherf, which flows from the Northern tundra and the Zirak-Zāram into the Eastern Undersea.  Together with its tributary the River Carrilo, the Cherf is the main line of communication in Flerrig.

Flerrig is principally inhabited by Gnomes, living in the various small towns and scattered hamlets and farmsteads.  Their main towns are Cherfilli, Fipro, Koptķ, Mastar, Toprķ, and the ports of Zirlon and Perlon (on the  Zirak-Zāram) and Maklon and Teblon (on the Undersea).  There is also a Hill-Dwarven enclave at Bundushathur-Dūm, beneath the summit of Mount Bundushathur (Cloudyhead), and a few Hill Dwarves are to be found in the towns and mining camps.  Historically the Mountain Dwarves have disdained the Underworld, where the Mountains of the Kum-Valga struggle to reach a mere 10,000 feet.  However the War against Trikāf in the Year 2504 brought them in increasing numbers, resulting in the usual inter-species tensions.  Human traders from Kargen frequent the Undersea ports.

The Gnomes are an easygoing people, who prefer a quiet, comfortable life to conflict.  They are industrious workers and canny traders, trading amongst themselves, with the Dwarves of the Overworld, and via the sea route to Kargen.  They worship all the Gods, though KOROS is favoured, and the Gods of Evil are strongly represented in Flerrig.  There is even a small, but influential RAYLIT Cult.  Druidism is well-respected, the principal Cult being the Keragund, with their Sacred Heart at the Khalad-Gundu (Shining Caves).  They have no overall King or Warlord, each community ordering its own affairs through a Council of Elders.

The mining camps in the West are dedicated to the extraction of coal from the Desert of Fire, whence it is transported by tramways, packhorses and river barges to the towns.  Some is even paid as tribute to the King of All Dwarves in far-off Gabilkhazād-Dūm.  Gold, silver and gems are also mined in the mountains and hills, but no mithril has been found in Flerrig (another reason for lack of interest by the Mountain Dwarves).
