Swarm Attacks

The following rules apply to attacks by swarms of small creatures of all types, whether insects (including scarabs, scorpions or spiders), mammals (including bats and rats), birds or fish (such as piranhas).  Such attacks may be summoned Magically by Insect Plague or Plague of Bats / Rats / Scarabs / Scorpions / Snakes / Spiders or School of Piranhas or Bird Attack Spells.

Movement:

Flying Swarms: up to 20 ft/sec
Swimming Swarms: up to 12 ft/sec
Scuttling Swarms: up to 10 ft/sec
Slithering Swarms: up to 5 ft/sec

Fighter Abilities:

D & RD= 25 + (2 * SwL) %    HP = 5 * SwL

Attack Modes:

Swarm Attack once per sec (no Initiative rolled) @ A = 25 + (5 * SwL) %

DAM:

Insect Plague = d4 + (SwL/2)
Plague of Bats / Rats / Snakes = d6 + (SwL/2)
Plague of Scarabs / School of Piranhas / Bird Attack = d4 + SwL

All Damage is done as General Damage.  Subtract the min ADS of Armour covering >= 50% of the Defender's HitLocs.

Insect Plague of any poisonous / stinging insects does SwL/3 FRU Poison Levels if DAM > 0 inflicted
Plague of Spiders does SwL/2 FRU Poison Levels if DAM > 0 inflicted
Plague of Scorpions  / Snakes does SwL Poison Levels if DAM > 0 inflicted

Plague of Bats / Rats / Insect Plague specifying any disease-carrying insects causes Disease of Disease Level = SwL/3 if DAM > 0 inflicted

HitLoc Table:    01 to (90 + 5SwL)

Each 5 Damage taken by Swarm reduces SwL by 1.  When 100% Damage is taken, all Swarming creatures are killed.  Weapon attacks cannot do > 5 Damage per hit, excluding bonus General Damage effects (e.g. dice of Fire Damage).

Thievish Abilities:

Defensive ThL = SwL

Other Abilities / Powers / Notes:

  1. The actual number of creatures in the Swarm may vary, depending upon the type of creature (e.g. there will be a lot more Scarabs than Snakes).
  2. Especially maddening Swarming creatures may Cause Madness.
