Anarea 1-off D: Breaking the Law 7 to 26 Aval 2000
Scenario 8. (L / N / C)
At Dawn of the first Caeriad of the first month of the Two Thousandth Year, there opened in Valdran the Joint Conference of the Temples of the Gods of Heaven. Eminent representatives were present from the Temples of BUDIF, ESCUS, FIDAR, KOROS, MIRIMI, PAREL, SARAN and SHELDA. The stated aims of their project were the promotion of the Alliance of Good, Law and Neutrality in the fields of religion and politics, so strengthening the alliance between Good, Lawfully and Neutrally Aligned nations, and ensuring a good, ordered and peaceful life for all the free peoples of the World. The Joint Conference had been established in order to determine how best to achieve these aims, and met in Valdran at the invitation of the Emperor Narsus VI, who granted a special dispensation for the Temple of MIRIMI to attend. But their proceedings were soon overshadowed by the growth of the Law.
The Joint Conference assembled in a small palace in the grounds of the High Temple of KOROS in Valdrea, on the Western edge of the Sacred City, where the wall runs down to the River Alma. The building had been offered by Gaius of Satril, High Priest of KOROS in Valdrea. However, when the Temple grounds begin to be affected by the Law the Conference will relocate, by Teleport, to Bjarmigen. Archbishop Justin will make rooms available to them in the White Palace, the seat of government in the Kingdom of the North.
The Joint Conference, having opened on the 1st Aval in the Sacred City of Valdran, soon became aware of the Law. Communes indicated they should let events take their course, but in their subsequent debate it was observed that they had not been prohibited from obtaining further information. Some delegates were uneasy about the matter, and a compromise was eventually resolved upon, whereby an emissary was to be despatched to the eminent Sage, Tandrys the Wise, by Wind Walk; both on the subject of the Law and for his views as to how the aims of the Conference might best be achieved. The delegate chosen as Emissary was Justin, Archbishop of ESCUS in the North. The Conference adjourned to await the outcome of his mission.
The foundation of a joint Temple was Tandrys' suggestion, although his proposal envisaged one building only, in which would be assimilated all the religions. Tandrys' views on the Law (see separate Scenario: "The Sage") alarmed Justin, who Word of Recalled back to report to the Conference, and a heated debate ensued.
How far these events have progressed will depend upon when the Questors visit the Conference.
For BUDIF: Ephraim (C) High Priest of BUDIF in Magil-Hubor; ClL 9; a hobbit; has been advised by BUDIF in Commune that the Law is a force of Destruction, and therefore opposes it.
For ESCUS: Archbishop Justin (N) High Priest of ESCUS in the North, Emissary of the Joint Conference of the Temples of the Gods of Heaven to the Sage Tandrys; ClL 11; worried by the implications for the World of the Law's expansion, as confirmed by ESCUS, and later Tandrys, and therefore seeks to stop it.
For FIDAR: Salome (L) High Priestess of FIDAR in Iklaron; ClL 11; FIDAR has stated that the Law is Peaceful, but that it is not beneficial to mankind. Salome's attitude is therefore ambivalent. She seeks to find a way of reconciling the divergent views of the delegates concerning the Law.
For KOROS: Anastasius (N) High Priest of KOROS in Kuntax; ClL 15; his Commune has given similar answers to those obtained by Gaius. He therefore considers the destruction of the Law an overriding priority.
For MIRIMI: Aranwen (C) High Priestess of MIRIMI amongst the Elves of Mírlinnyrn; ClL 12; whilst the milky-white radiance of the Law is undeniably pretty, and reminiscent of the divine luminescence of her Mistress, she sees it for the hateful thing it is, and denounces it in no uncertain terms. She realises there is little she can do in Valdran, but contributes vociferously to discussions.
For PAREL: Thorin (L) High Priest of PAREL to the Mountain Dwarves of Barrakizdin; ClL 9; he has not asked PAREL's view of the Law, because it is clearly unmusical. He is not one to leap to conclusions concerning what the Law may do, but when he is convinced as to the threat, he will side vigorously with the opposition to it.
For SARAN: Constantia of Aven (L) High Priestess of SARAN in Valdrea; ClL 14; eldest daughter of Narsus VI of Aven and younger sister of Decus XX of Aven; wholeheartedly supports SARAN and the Law, and refuses to accept the decision of the majority to oppose it, using procedural arguments, such as that the Conference must, given its aims, proceed only by unanimous decision. Member of The Order of the Sun Diamond.
For SHELDA: Philomena (N) High Priestess of SHELDA in Gorreth on Kyr; ClL 9; is somewhat distracted by her attempts to bed the handsome Justin (who seems unaware of her charms) but recognises the threat posed by the Law, from SHELDA's words of caution and Justin's concern.
The individual delegates will put forward their respective Gods' (so far as they understand them from Communes and/or the interpretation of Their Creeds) and their own personal views. For more detail as to KOROS' position see Scenario "The Wisdom of KOROS". If Justin has returned from his mission see Scenario "The Sage". The delegates may provide Communes with their respective Gods, but may have to enlist assistance from the Temples if they have used their own Communes this week. See Scenario "The Wisdom of KOROS" regarding Communing.
