Clerical Spell Specification

[n] Sanctify Object / Consecrate Object / Desecrate Object / Song of Consecration: Object

Spell Level = (100 - (Current Usual B of God)) / 2

BTS: (48 + 2SL)% (Wp) for sentient Objects only

ULT: 7 hours

Materials: an object(s) to be Sanctified that is appropriate to the God (usually a version of the God’s Symbol with a chain to wear it round one's neck)

Actions: engage in rituals of the God in a ceremony of Sanctification.  For Evil Gods this usually involves blood (preferably someone else's). / Song of Consecration: Object: sing to Object about the wonder of PAREL

Effect of ThrowSanctification S%, where S = T/25 FRU, subject as follows:

  1. The Maximum Effective T that may be obtained is equal to the lowest Credit with God of any of the Caster and any other Joint Participants in the Request for the Spell, i.e. to achieve the maximum S +20% all Participants must have at least 500 Cr.  (The T of the Spell for other purposes is unaffected by this, but S is determined by the maximum Effective T.)

  2. The maximum S of any object is limited by its cash value in GP, i.e. to be Sanctified to the maximum of 20% the object must be worth at least 20GP.  For multiple target objects, each must have at least the required value.

  3. S may be increased at the God's discretion (or reduced at the God's displeasure) by up to 2 times, depending on how appropriate the object is to the God's Creed.  Well-made representations of the God's Creed are a safe bet, but to get the maximum increase of *2 the object must be particularly fine.  For multiple target objects, the adjustment is based only on the least appropriate object.

Wt Pts: w wt pts    -w    select the lightest target objects first if wt pts are insufficient, and objects are only Sanctified if there are sufficient wt pts to cover their total weight

Range: 10+d ft    -5d(d-1)/2 %

Radius: r feet -5r(r-1)/2%    all target objects must be within the Radius

Notes:

  1. Targets one or more physical objects specified in Casting.
  2. Sanctification is a permanent Effect.  It does not Detect as Magic, as it causes the object to be permanently recognised by the God as (un)holy rather than enchanting it with a Magical Effect.  It will however Detect as being of the God's Alignment.
  3. Sanctified Objects do not give a bonus to B but may be required as Materials for Clerical Spells.  Not all Clerical Spells require an item Sanctified to the God as Materials, but where they do the item should be Sanctified to +(Spell Level)%.  Note that it is at the discretion of the God whether to reduce the effect of the Spell if Materials are insufficient (and there is likely to be a penalty in credit).
  4. Clerical Magical Items (typically granted by Commune) may also require an object with a certain level of Sanctification to be enchanted by the God.
  5. A Cleric or other Being with high Ft (make a Ft check) can feel the effect of Sanctification when holding or touching the object, though not the exact amount of S.  Sanctification to one's own God feels right and awe-inspiring.  Sanctification to another God feels off or wrong (depending on Alignment difference).
  6. Sanctification is not cumulative.  Only the highest S achieved so far has effect.
  7. An object can only be Sanctified to one God.  If the object to be Sanctified is already Sanctified to another God, deduct S% from the existing % Sanctification.  If the result is positive or zero, the existing Sanctification is reduced to that amount.  If the result if negative, the object is Sanctified to Caster's God by that amount.
  8. Song of Consecration: Object: (PAREL) is identical to Consecrate Object but requires a song to be sung by Caster(s) throughout Prayer and Incantation.
