Duration Locked Open:    s sec     -s    The Spell effect is simply as if someone had opened the Portal.  If the Portal has a self-closing mechanism, or tends to shut of its own accord, this will come into effect s sec after the Knock resolves.  Otherwise it will remain open after s expires.  Extension Spells may be used on s.

Notes:

  1. Opens any door, window or other portal which has any vegetable material (wood) in portal, its frame or locking mechanism.  This includes the lids of chests made of wood.
  2. Can cast @ +1SL in Ranian Cycle for a stone / metal portal, frame or locking mechanism (learnt as same Spell).
  3. All Portals have DL0 or greater.  Doors which are apparently impossible to open by Thievish Open Doors have DL13 or greater.  The DLs vs Open Doors and Pick Locks are summed for purposes of the Knock Spell (although they are counted separately vs Thieves, and the DL vs Knock may be reduced by a Thief overcoming one or more of them).  If barred, bolted, locked etc. in several ways, including by Hold Portal, each has its own DL added to the DL vs Knock.
  4. Portals may also be Knocked if locked in the open position.
  5. The target Portal is freed from being locked in place, and if shut the Spell will automatically open it.
  6. A Portal which is simply shut, and not locked, barred or bolted in any way, so it could be opened by pushing it or turning the handle, has DL0.  Knock may still be used to open it.
  7. Multiple Knock attempts are not cumulative.  If Knock fails, the DL is not reduced (though it can be increased if there is Blowback).
  8. Portals may also be opened by shoulder-charging or battering rams with % chance success dependent on Strength = 5St-10DL%.  Battering rams allow multiple Beings to add their Sts at Ö (A2 + B2 + C2) for Sts of A, B & C etc.  Success may shatter the Portal.
  9. Magical Portals barred by magical means (other than Hold Portal) may not be Knocked open.  E.g. a selective Teleportal or a Waypoint such as a Stone Circle of Hall of Mirrors may not be opened by Knock.
