Minduinath

Mirlinnyrn

Minduinath is the homeland of the Calaquendi (High Elves), whose legend says that the first of their race awoke beside the waters of Lake Cuiviénen in the Year 1.

It is the Land Between the Rivers, lying between the River Caladuin and its great tributary the Miriduin, which at the great waterfalls of Nen Perinon (Waters' Dividing) splits into the South-flowing main stream of the Miriduin, which flows via Lake Cuiviénen to join the Caladuin at Nen Sirithon (Waters' Meeting), and the East-flowing Periduin, which joins the Saporil to flow South East into the Caladuin further down the Vale of Caladuin.  The Vale of Minduinath is thus entirely encircled by the Miriduin to the West, Caladuin to the South, Periduin to the North and Saporil to the East.

On the higher ground in the centre of the Vale grows the deciduous Forest of Minduinath, and amongst the mallorns at its highest point is the Tree-City of Mírlinnyrn, the capital and only sizeable city of the Calaquendi.  The Secret Clearing of Muinalatina, somewhere in the woods North of Mírlinnyrnm, is the former site of the Library of Good Law, abandoned by OMERRON in the Year 2218, and now a Library of the Liantelië.

The town of Alqualondë at the mouth of the River Gilrain, where it debouches into Lake Cuiviénen, is the only permanet settlement of any size in the grassy steppe West of the Forest.  From here the Calaquendi sail their swan ships on the lake.  Minastan's Tower beyond the lake was built by a reclusive Magic-User who is said to have died in 2504, with the tower passing into the possession of the Demon to whom he had sold his soul.

Nen Sirithon is the Sacred Heart Grove of the Sub-Forest of Minduinath, and considered by many Calaquendi to be the true Sacred Heart of the whole Major Forest of Taur-Galen.  Here dwell the Guardians; powerful Druids who maintain the Balance of Nature and the Seasons.

The Calquendi do not take kindly to intruders into their lands, which are patrolled by the Ninquiroqueni (White Riders), who deal harshly with those who resist them.
