The Imperial Fleet was escorting the Court on a State Visit to Iklaron when it was caught in one of the summer storms that are a hazard of these waters. The Admiral declared that he had no option but to run before the storm, and so you were carried way off course, on a fierce westerly gale. As the storm abated, land was sighted, identified from your charts as "The Secret Isle". Not being one to be deterred by secrecy, you ordered a landfall to reprovision.
The coast proved girt all round with mist, and as your lead ships entered it, the Imperial Flagship was caught in a freak squall and carried into the mist to one side. It hit rocks and went down. The lifeboats were launched in turbulent seas, and Prince Marcus led an appeal to SARAN in your boat to save you.
Yours was, as far as you can tell, the only boat spared. With you are the Empress Harina, Crown Prince Marcus, Lascer Duke of Omec, Jiclex Commander of the Imperial Guard with the Magic Sword 'Lionward', and Taris (nicknamed "Greyhawk") Lord High Executioner, Imperial Inquisitor and Master of the Imperial Games. You trust none of them. Harina and you have long lived separate lives, Marcus has become a religious fanatic, Lascer is a drug addict, Jiclex is Harina's current lover, and Taris is too ruthless to inspire trust. Yet they are your closest followers.

None of the Nobles were particularly high level, as the practice of Duelling for Office had not been introduced at this time, and the Crown was hereditary (though it often changed hands by coup). The emphasis of this 1-off was on character play and interaction, not systems and combat.
