Description

Human male, Valdrean nobility (on father's side, as is a bastard).  Age 62.  Black hair, dark eyes.

Abilities

You carry a few of the tools of your trade; e.g. thumbscrews.

Background

See enclosed Information Sheets for history and politics.

The idea of being Emperor has never appealed to you.  You like to be the right-hand man, and able to survive the not-infrequent changes at the top.  You have therefore amassed considerable power, with a view to becoming indispensable.  You have reached the second rung of the ladder under Leo II, and would do anything to maintain your position - including switching allegiance to a more likely candidate to succeed him.

On a State Visit to Iklaron the Imperial Fleet hit a storm and was blown off course.  The Imperial Flagship was blown away from the other ships onto the rocks of the Secret Isle.  Only your lifeboat was spared, thanks to SARAN, to who you and Prince Marcus led a Final Appeal to save the boat.

The six survivors are (i) yourself, (ii) the Emperor Leo, (iii) the Empress Harina (Leo and Harina have long lived separate lives), (iv) Crown Prince Marcus (a SARAN Paladin), (v) Lascer Duke of Omec (now a hopeless drug addict), and (vi) Jiclex, Commander of the Imperial Guard, with his magic sword 'Lionward' (Jiclex is Harina's current lover).  Despite the fact that these are his closest followers, Leo trusts none of them, and it is your job to expose and execute traitors.

The Secret Isle ought to be an ideal source of specimens for the Games, if you can take them alive.

DM's Note

Taris was not a SARAN Paladin.  In those decadent days, not every SARAN Ft/Cl achieved sufficient Holiness.
