The Bat Cults operate in the twilight and darkness, in Madness and in Dreams. They hide from the daylight in dark caves, dungeons or abandoned Temples, from which they emerge as it grows dark to infiltrate other Cults and spread the Word of THE GREAT BAT or the Glorious Lies of THE LORD OF VAMPIRES. As the bats move in to disused Temples, a Bat Cult often follows to establish their own Secret Temple of their Sponsor.
Bat Cultism is a popular Beastmaster Cult in the Underworld and amongst Evils, with its main Patron God THE DARK BAT being an Aspect of ALTIS. SOROK Sponsors Vampiric Bat Cults in the guise of THE LORD OF VAMPIRES. There are also Bat Cultist Thievish Brotherhoods in the Underworld. However there are also Good and Neutral Bat Cultists, especially in the Overworld Forests, who are often individual members of other Druidic Cults. There are Beastmasters of the Jungle who have been chosen by the Bat as their Totem Animal and there were Bat Cultists amongst the Seekers of the Lost in the North West Forest and amongst the Guardians of the Hidden Grove in the North East Forest. In Taur Galen there are the Elvish Bat Cults of the Pillorgwaith (Sindarin) and the Quildarië (Quenya). The Lómërámarond (Bat Cave) of the Quildarië is situated beneath the Temple Tree of ALTIS in the Tree-City of Mírlinnyrn, above the Dungeons of the Hrótanwalmëo (Halls of Torment).
Bat Cults tend to the Mystiical, with many Cutltists being Dreamers and/or Madmen. Some Bat Cults breed, Summon and ride Giant Bats. Others practice Vampirism, and may seek to infiltrate and control the local Chapter of the Rat Cult.
The Sacred Circles of Bat Cults are bat-infested caves or crypts inscribed with Runes to mark their Links to other Bat Caves. Some are Dark Circles beneath established Light Circles. The Dreamworld of Bats is The Nightwing World, at the Sacred Heart of which lies the dark cave complex of The Darkest Roost, where THE DARK BAT hangs.
