(Cleric may specify the Species and Number of Animals he is attempting to Conjure and the AL / SL if he wishes, or may specify he is leaving any such aspects of the parameter open.  The God will set the necessary parameter based on the Cleric's specification and to the extent left open will set the highest AL/SL that will give 100% Chance of Success.  Note that leaving the Species open is only appropriate with Chaotic Gods.  DM's Note: this is made a Variable Parameter to get round the 500% limit on T for high-level Animals and/or large numbers of them.)

Range:    30d ft     -5d(d-1)/2 %

Duration:    t hrs     -5t(t-1)/2%

Notes:

  1. Makes live Animals of a Species specified by Caster appear at and around specified conjuring point within Range.  Small Animals are Conjured as Swarms (though one or a few specimens may be Conjured as a SL0 Swarm if Caster so specifies).
  2. Conjure Rats / Scarabs / Scorpions / Snakes / Wargs / Wolves can only be used to make the stated Species (with which the God has a particular association) appear.
  3. The Animals appear in a natural distribution for them around the conjuring point.  If Beings or objects are at the specified conjuring point, the Animals will appear around them.  If the conjuring point is inhospitable to the Animals (e.g. above a pit or water) they may appear nearby instead.
  4. Caster has no control over the Animals, but their loyalty will tend to his/her party.
  5. The Animals have been summoned for the Duration from amongst the nearest ones of that Species and return to whence they were Summoned at the end of Duration or if killed.  If horses have been Summoned for the Cleric and his party to ride, it is advisable to dismount before Duration expires.
  6. Specific Animals known to Caster may not be specified as the Animals to be Summoned.  There is some scope to use the Spell tactically on Animals in sight of Caster (e.g. to move opponents' horses from under their riders), but it is at the discretion of the God (and possibly also of local Nature Spirits, though this may be considered heretical by many Creeds) which Animals are chosen to be Summoned.  Chaotic Gods look more favourably on these sorts of tricks.
  7. Monsters which count as a particular sort of Animal for Spell Casting purposes (e.g. Giant Snakes count as Snakes) may not be Summoned, because they are not Animals.
