9. Natural Gateway
Ranian Cycle
BTS: 41% (Sz)
ULT: 100 hours
Materials: a place with Circs
Mod >= 2
Actions: describe edges of Gateway with hands (may
point if larger than can reach)
Effect of Throw:
1 to 20 No Effect
³ 21 %age Chance of Success =
5(T-11)% If fails, Natural Gateway does not appear.
Height: 10h ft
-(h-1) (may define shape within this limit by Actions, but
must be a vertical plane)
Width: 5w ft
-(w-1) (may define shape within this limit by Actions, but
must be a vertical plane)
Duration: 10t sec -(t-1)
Subtraction for use by unnatural Beings: Each Being who uses the
Gateway subtracts 10-(current IP total) sec from Duration (min 0 sec
Subtraction). Creatures of Nature are assumed to have an IP total
>10 for this purpose. Non-Druids may instress under a Druid's
guidance, or may just appreciate Nature for themselves. Given the Instress
formula, a non-Druid with Nt <12 will be unable to gain Is, and will
therefore give the maximum Subtraction. If the Subtraction for a
particular Being using the Gateway will reduce Duration to <0, apply an
additional Chance of Success for that Being of 100% - 10% for each sec
the Subtraction would make Duration go negative by, e.g if there is a 6 sec
Duration and a Being with 0IP gives a 10 sec Subtraction, there is a Chance
of Success of 100 - 40 = 60%.
Notes:
- Natural Gateway opens up a Druidic Teleportal between places with Circs Mods
>=2 for the Duration. It has no effect if the Casting or
destination point has Circs Mod <2.
- The Teleportal is one-sided at both ends, but may be used both ways,
without limitation of passengers or weight, except for the above
Subtraction for use by unnatural Beings.
- The Caster must have previously have instressed at least 10IP from the
destination point. If less than 10IP have been instressed, ratio %age
Chance of Success by (IP instressed)/10. If the destination point was last
instressed before the Caster bound (finished
learning) Natural Gateway, he takes -10 (-1 per 1/10 LT outstanding). There is
also a penalty of -1 per year since destination point last instressed last
visited. There is no limit to the number of potential destination points which can be
remembered in this way.
- Casting or destination points on different Planes count as different
destinations. Normal penalties apply (see "Casting Spells
between the Planes" in the General Magic-Using System) for Casting a
Natural Gateway to another Plane.
- Anyone (including an unnatural Being) may observe either way through
the Gateway with all Senses, throw or fire objects through it,
etc. Spells may likewise be Cast through it without any additional
Range minus from Casting to destination point or vice-versa, but Casting
Spells between the Planes penalties will still apply for a Gateway Cast
between Planes.
- Gateway via Mists has the same Spell
Specification, but instead of a Gateway with a flat plane of Height by
Width it creates an area of Mist of Radius 10r ft -(r-1) at both
ends. This restricts observation and targeting of Spell Casting
except by those using See through Mist effects.
