Elementalist Spell Specification
Class: Illusionist (Hr)
2. Silence
BTS: n/a
ULT: 50 hours
Materials: an ear (detached from its body)
Actions: cover own ears
Effect of Throw:
-2 to 7 Insanity
8 to 9 100 to 50% noise amplification
10 to 12 No Effect
13 to 21 10(T-12)% noise reduction
>= 22 100% noise reduction
Each 10% of noise reduction gives DL -1 to Thievish Move
Silently and DL +1 to Thievish Detect
Hiding (Hr), Hear Noise and
other Activities using Hearing. Noise amplification has the reverse
effect.
Range: 30d ft -d(d-1)/2
Cast on object: -4 (moves with object)
Radius: 10r ft -(r-1)
Duration: 30t min - t(t-1)/2
Notes:
- Silence has the noise reduction effect throughout the specified Radius,
reducing the ability of Beings within or without the Radius to hear
noises made within that Radius. The effect applies to all
noises made within the Radius (by friend or foe alike).
- Thievish Activities may enable a noise made within a Silence to be
heard, even with 100% noise reduction (if the DL10 can be overcome).
This is in contrast with Hush effects, which
prevent any noise being made in the first place. Illusionist Hear Spells may
also enable a Silenced noise to be heard, as they override Illusionist
Hr effects.
- Silence and Amplify are opposites which cancel each
other out, but multiple Silence sources are not cumulative, nor are multiple
Amplify sources. To calculate the current noise reduction /
amplification level at any given point start at 0%, subtract the strongest
Silence source, and add the strongest Amplify source.
- Silence and Hush effects both apply at once
(as they work differently). A Hushed Target within the Radius of a
Silence expends Action Points for activities as normal.
- Silence does not prevent the Casting of Spells: the Incantation must
still be declaimed out loud, but the noise reduction effect will apply to
it. The God, Elemental or Nature Spirit to Whom the Incantation
is addressed will still be sufficiently aware of it.
