Succeeds on: 15%

Enables Thief to hear distant movements by putting their ear to the ground to detect vibrations.  May also be used underground.

>= 16 Failure: nothing heard
-9 to 15 Vibration heard, cannot distinguish direction
-34 to -10 Vibration heard, can distinguish direction only
-49 to 25 Vibration heard, can distinguish general numbers and direction
<= -50 Vibration heard, can distinguish approximate numbers and direction

Difficulty Levels:

  1. DL = 1 per mile in the Wilderness / DL = 1 per 100 ft underground or in urban environments.
  2. DL = -1 to hear a large herd or military foirce. 0 to hear a large group or noisy creature, -1 to hear a smaller group or quieter creature, -3 to hear 4 legs, or -6 to hear 2 legs.
  3. A steel helmet will give DL10 to Hear (see section 10.6 of the Th System).
