3. Chameleon

Saurian Cycle

J'Ungol Cycle / Piscine Cycle (Non-standard)

BTS: 29% (Sg)

ULT: 25 hours

Materials: part of the environment (e.g. dirt or foliage)

Actions: rub Materials over Target

Effect of Throw:

1 to 12    No Effect

13 to 20 Chameleon @ Thievish DL = (T-12)

³ 21 Chameleon @ Thievish DL 10

Duration: 2t hrs - t(t-1)/2    (may be terminated by 1 sec light concentration from the Caster)

Range: 3d ft -(4+d(d+1)/2)    If cast on self, there is no Range minus. If cast on another Being, Range is at least 0 ft, so there will be a Range minus of at least -4.

Blend Speed: DL-b sec -b(b+1)/2    This is the time for the Chameleon effect to adjust to a change in environment, where DL is the difference between the two, determined by colour and environment, from DL1 for a minor change on moving in the same environment to DL10 for a complete change.  Subtract the no. of secs still to be changed from the current DL.

Notes:

  1. Cast on a single Target living, corporeal Being.
  2. The Spell makes the Target, his clothing and possessions within his Aura change physical appearance by Visual Illusion (only) to blend in with its environment. and is an imvoluntary effect (not controlled by Target or Caster).  It gives the Target a DL against Detect Hiding and Detect Man-to-Man.  To use Chameleon successfully, it is recommended that the Target should also Hide in Shadows.  It is not necessary for the Target to Hide in Shadows, however, as the Spell still requires him to be seen with Detect Hiding due to the Chameleon effect even if he is not deliberately hiding.  If he attempts and fails Hide in Shadows, the DL of Chameleon is reduced as per Note 6 below, depending on his speed of movement (i.e. failing to hide when Chameleoned but not moving has no effect).
  3. Chameleon is not directly applicable against Truesight (which requires a target already seen), but if Truesight were to be used on the background object against which the Target is blending in, then the DL from Chameleon would apply to prevent the Target being discerned, though not to protect that background object being truly seen.
  4. An observer must use the above Thievish OBS Activities to see a Target camouflaged by a Chameleon Spell.
  5. Chameleon is not cumulative with the Thievish Camouflage Activity, which achieves a similar effect.  Apply whichever gives the higher DL.
  6. The DL achieved is reduced (down to DL0) if the Target moves, as follows:

The existing DL is re-established on the Target stopping moving, at the Blend Speed.
