Notes:

  1. Identify Magic enables Caster to detect the existence of and know the nature of Magic Items and Magic Using effects (including effects of Spells, unused Potions, nature of untaken Potions, effects of taken Potions, effects of Magic Items, the properties of Magic Items, but not Powers and their effects) within the Radius.  Knowledge that a target is not Magical gives a reading as such, which is different to failing Chance of Success, which gives no result.  The knowledge given is mental and factual, rather than a vision or pictorial.
  2. Success gives the description of the Magical effect and its strength as determined by Throw or a key Variable Parameter (e.g. Magic Sword +1A, P & DAM, Fly @ 10/ft/sec, Identify Magic with base Chance of Success 50% (it can be used on itself)), but does not give secondary Variable Parameters (e.g. Duration, Radius) or a detailed explanation of how an effect with which Caster is unfamiliar works or how an obscure Magic Item might be used.
  3. Heavy concentration is required to scan for Magic. It takes 6 sec to scan each Target Being, Target object or Target volume of up to 1ft radius within the Radius.  Ratio Chance of Success if less time is taken, e.g. if Target enters Radius during scan.  The Caster must have a line of sight to, or otherwise be able to perceive, each Target  to be scanned within Radius.
  4. Multiple attempts may be made to Identify the same Target within the Radius, whilst the Duration lasts.
  5. The Caster can move the Radius about using light concentration, provided that its centre does not exceed the Range (which is calculated from the Caster's current location from time to time).
  6. If Identify Magic targets a Magical effect or Item Cast upon or within the aura of a Being, that Being gets a st against Chance of Success being rolled for each attempt to Identify made on him or within his aura.  Caster cannot distinguish between the st being made or Chance of Success being failed, both giving no result.  Magic Items which are Themselves Bound Beings get an additional st of their own.
  7. Where there are multiple Magic Items and effects upon or within the aura or scanned radius of a Target, Caster may specify whilst heavily concentrating on scanning that he is focusing on or looking for something in particular (e.g. Target's sword, effects which would account for him flying, Prots.).  These will then be prioritised, subject to which potential results will be selected randomly.  Spending further time scanning will select further results.
  8. Magic Items with multiple enchantments from different sources require separate scans to identify all the enchantments (e.g. a Magic Sword with +1A, P & DAM has three separate enchantments, but all from the same source (BOTIS), but if it is also 1d6 Flaming that enchantment comes from a different source, even if the Sword was obtained by a Pact with BOTIS).
  9. Effects and Potions that have resulted from a Spell Cast have the Spell Level of that Spell Cast.  The SL of Spells of other Disciplines is not doubled for this purpose.  Clerical Spells count as half their SL (FRU).   Magic Items and Effects that have not resulted from a Spell Cast have SL1.
