5. Quarrels That Fire Through Walls

Also available as a Personal Spell at Level 4.

BTS: none (if Cast on another, he/she must make Actions (a) or Spell fails)

Materials: (i) a case, quiver or pouch appropriate to hold the Quarrels (ii) a thin slate of rock or sheet of metal

Actions: (a) Target Being holds out Materials (i) to receive Quarrels and (b) Caster breaks or punctures Materials (ii)

Effect of Throw:

8 to 17 Insanity

18 to 20 Caster takes Damage from 3 to 1d6 Quarrels to random Hit Locations (no st) - the Quarrels disappear after hitting

21 to 24 No Effect

25 to 30    Create Quarrels with +0 to A

³ 31    Create Quarrels with + (T-25)/6 FRD to A, i.e.:

T Magical Bonus to A of Created Quarrels / Slingstones
25 to 30 +0 (still counts as Magical Weapon)
31 to 36 +1 = +5% to A
37 to 42 +2 = +10% to A
43 to 48 +3 = +15% to A
49 to 54 +4 = +20% to A

Duration: t min / 10t Quarrels  - t(t-1)/2    10t Quarrels appear and 1 disappears every MR, whether or not fired.  Duration expires after t min or when all Quarrels have disappeared.  Extension Spells create the appropriate no. of extra Quarrels.

Range: d ft -4+(d(d+1)/2) If cast on self, there is no Range minus. If cast on others, Range is at least 0 ft, so there will be a Range minus of at least -4.

Notes:

  1. Creates Magical Quarrels with the Fire Through Walls Effect for a Light or Heavy Crossbow (as specified by the variable parameter).
  2. As this is an Earth Spell, the Created Quarrels are made of metal.  It is not possible to create Arrows.
  3. The Created Quarrels appear in the Materials.
  4. The Created Quarrels may only be loaded and fired by the Target Being.  They disappear if anyone else touches them.  Fired Quarrels disappear the second after hitting an opponent.
  5. All the Quarrels may be dispelled by the Caster at will.
  6. Target can fire the Quarrels through up to Penetration feet of earth / rock / metal ore ("Walls") as if they were air.  The Spell does not allow the ADS effect of metal armour / shields to be avoided.
  7. Target still takes normal Range effects from firing.  Penetrated Walls still count towards the Range.
  8. The Spell does not allow the Target to see through Walls.  He will need an Earthsee or X-Ray Vision Effect to target accurately.
  9. The Spell allows an Earthwalking Target to fire out of the Earth at non-Earthwalking opponents or Earthwalking opponents to be fired at from within or without the Earth.  Earthwalking opponents are hit (and ADS) as normal, unless they are creatures of earth / rock / metal ore (e.g. Stone Golems, but not Stone Giants or Gargoyles).
  10. If the Target misses his opponent, the Quarrel will carry on travelling through up to Penetration feet of Walls, and will disappear when it runs out of Penetration or Effective Range.
