Elementalist Spell Specification
Class: Planist
3. Television
BTS: n/a
ULT: 90 hrs
ChMod/2 (Mr) applies to the Spell.
Materials: a crystal ball or a reflective surface (a mirror or a bowl
or pool of water)
Actions: concentrate hard on remembering target destination
Effect of Throw:
-1 to 8 Insanity
9 to 11 Hallucinate viewpoint
12 to 15 No effect
>= 16 (82-2T)% chance of inaccuracy:
If inaccurate, viewpoint appears on ground (or level of destination) at a
distance of ((1-100) * (% missed that needed for accuracy)) ft.
in a direction (1-360) degrees from North.
Percentage chance of up / down inaccuracy is % missed that
needed for accuracy. (For example if you get a throw of 25, and
so have 50% chance of accuracy, but roll 60, then you have a 10%
chance of up / down inaccuracy.) If so roll an additional axis of
(1-360) degrees from up.
Focussing Time: 5 seconds. To
reduce by t sec: -2 (5-t) (min 0 sec)
Observers: N living observers -2N
(in addition to Caster - must all be in
physical contact)
Observable Radius: 100R ft
-(R-1) (subject to normal limitations on visibility and any
obstacles)
Duration: 5t min -(t-1)
Notes:
- Television allows the Caster and Observers to view a
target location previously visited and memorised by the Caster.
The viewpoint appears in the Materials.
- The initial viewpoint is from the Caster's eye level when he learnt the
location. He may specify the initial direction of view by remembering
it as the part of the Cast where the location is specified.
- Television is one-way only. However, effects which allow those
observed to be aware they are being viewed will apply normally.
- The Caster may rotate the direction of view in 3 dimensions from the
viewpoint using heavy
concentration. The viewpoint may not be moved. No
concentration is required for the Observers to see through the Television
(other than that normally required to observe things).
- The Caster may terminate the Television before the end of the Duration by
1 sec's heavy concentration.
- If the target location was last viewed (or visited using Teleport)
before the Caster bound (finished
learning) Teleport or Television, he takes -10 (-1 per 1/10 LT outstanding). There is a penalty of -1 per year since destination last
viewed (or visited).
- The destination must be remembered accurately. To commit a
place to memory has ULT = 5 hours. Alternatively a Position Spell can be used. % inaccuracy
in remembering destination = % chance of no effect (if the
Teleport would otherwise succeed). There is no limit to the number of places which can be
remembered.
- Equivalent locations on different Planes count as different
destinations. Normal penalties apply (see "Casting Spells
between the Planes" in the General Magic-Using System) for Televiewing another Plane.
- Televiewing to a viewpoint in a solid object results in a view of
blackness (unless any of the Observers have X-Ray Vision).
- Television is sight only (Other Senses may be added by Binding the Spell
at +1 Spell Level per Sense) up to the limit of the Observable Radius,
beyond which everything becomes an indecipherable blur. Sight Spells
and effects (including Thievish ones) may be used through a Television
viewpoint as if the range between the Materials and viewpoint were 0.
If the viewpoint is on another Plane, there is no penalty to the Sight Spell
or effect. Observers with Planewatch may
see onto other Planes from the viewpoint.
- Spells may not be Cast through the Television. If a Spell is
Cast which can legally target someone or something Televiewed, Range is
calculated as the actual physical distance from the Caster, with the
appropriate minus. For example, it would be possible to Cast Charm
Person at a target in an adjacent room which had been learnt as a
Teleport location, using Television for the necessary line of sight.
- Focussing Time is the time for the viewpoint to come
into focus. The Observers are not disorientated.
It does count towards Duration.
