To use Ass, the Assassin must be undetected by and within striking distance of the Mark.  Hide in Shadows and/or Move Silently are typically used to achieve this.

The Mark must not be dodging, so must either be sleeping / drugged / unconscious, or the Assassin must have succeeded in an Attack from Behind / Attack from the Side / Attack by Surprise attempt against the Mark with a sufficient result to reduce D to <= 0 (using any bonus given to A to eliminate any D resulting from Magical effects or when using AbS.

Assassinate involves the use of the Assassin's fingers to kill the Mark by pressing certain sensitive pressure points around the neck without leaving any trace on the body.  To kill the Mark leaving a bruise or other trace is considered a failure.  As it also involves revealing secret lore of the Assassins' Guild, the Assassin may himself be assassinated if he does not dispose of such evidence before it is found.

>= 51 Failure 4: Mark alerted, and is unharmed.  (Any honourable Assassin would promptly kill himself for such a gross failure.)
50 to 26 Failure 3: Mark Stunned for (T-25)/5 FRU sec 
25 to 21 Failure 2: Mark killed with obvious bruise or other trace on body.
20 to 1 Failure 1: Mark killed with bruise or other trace on body which has a 5T% chance of detection.
<= 0 Mark killed without leaving trace.  Contract fulfilled.

Difficulty Levels:

  1. Total Level of Defender (FRD to one decimal place: e.g for L 9.7 DL is 9.7, giving +97% to T).   Note that all Levels count, not just ThL.
  2. Assassination in Melee = DL 3.
