* Restricted: PAREL Clerics and Singing Paladins only
The Singing Paladins are the Paladinic Order of PAREL, forming His Temple Guard. It is an elite Order and admission is by audition and invitation.
Every Temple of PAREL has its own Choir. Those male and female Clerics of PAREL who are also Fighters and sing the most beautifully in the Choir may be invited to join The Singing Paladins. Larger Temples of PAREL (such as those in Valdran and Tehmor) have a Choir of Singing Paladins, which holds an annual concert on 1 Jerem of each year to celebrate the official Day of Birth of PAREL (believed to have been on 1 VI 1600). Such concerts attract packed houses of music lovers of all Faiths. It is said that the greatest Choir of Singing Paladins is that of the Lindamehtari of the Temple Tree of PAREL in the Tree-City of Mírlinnyrn in the Land of the High Elves, the beauty of whose songs is too much for mere humans.
To be eligible a Cleric of PAREL and Fighter with all their Faith in PAREL and having a beautiful singing voice (Bt >= 15 is normally expected - note Bt does not just represent physical beauty) and at least 500 Clerical credit earned in the service of the Temple. Ordination is at the annual concert or by special choral service in a Temple of PAREL, when they sing an Oath of Loyalty to PAREL in a Song of Communion. If their Faith and Oath are true, PAREL then Delegates to them the Paladinic Powers of the Order, which must be activated by special songs:
SP are allocated to Saving Level (and de-allocated) at will by 1 sec's heavy concentration with indefinite duration provided the Paladin continues humming the applicable tune (which my be woven in with other songs). The allocated SP count towards SP available (e.g. for calculating when one goes below 1/2 SP), but do not count as used (e.g. for the same purpose) as they are not expended. They are not available for use in Spells. If the number of SP used in Magic-Using reduces total SP available to less than the number of SP allocated, the number allocated is reduced accordingly. See the FAQ re Paladins for further explanations of the Powers.
Singing Paladins must earn at least 5 PAREL credit per Caeriad, and maintain a balance of at least 250 credit. A Singing Paladin who falls below these limits must devote themself to restoring them as soon as possible. Singing Paladins must behave Lawfully at all times and hold to their oath. The Singing Paladins sing the Song of Blessing proudly in perfect unison as they go boldly into combat, without regard for their own lives.
