Effect of Throw:

1 to 14 No Effect

³ 15    Hide Life if (Effective T of Incoming Spell) ≤ (T of Hibernate)

Duration:    t Cds    - t    (may specify maximum when Casting, which may be in lesser units of time than Cds)

Range:    d ft    -(4+d)    If cast on self, there is no Range minus. If cast on others, Range is at least 0 ft, so there will be a Range minus of at least -4.

Notes:

  1. Cast on a single Target living body.  Caster specifies when Casting whether Hibernate or Play Dead is being Cast (as a no cost Variable Parameter).
  2. Hibernate makes Target lose all bodily and some mental function for Duration and appear to be asleep.  He will breathe and have a pulse, but otherwise is in Suspended Animation.  He needs air, but not need food, water or air to survive whilst in Hibernation and does not urinate or excrete.  He cannot Cast thought or reflex Spells, but may Dream or wander the Realm of Madness (if he was Mad before his Animation was Suspended or enters it via Dreams).
  3. Play Dead makes Target lose all bodily and mental function for Duration and appear to be dead.  He will be in Suspended Animation and will not breathe or have a pulse.  He does not need food, water or air to survive whilst Playing Dead and does not urinate or excrete.  He cannot Cast thought or reflex Spells, Dream or wander the Realm of Madness (but may be found Playing Dead in Dreams or Madness if he was there before his Animation was Suspended).
  4. Target cannot be targeted or affected by Spells or Effects that only affect living Beings unless they have an Effective Throw that is greater than that achieved on the HibernateThe Spell is also effective against the Detect Life ability of Undead.
  5. For Dr and El Spells Effective Throw will normally equal the final Throw, but Detect Life Spells or Effects may give a higher Effective Throw.  For Cl Spells Effective Throw = T/5.  The Effective T of Potions is that of the Spell Cast in creating them.  The Effective Throw of the Detect Life ability of Undead is (10 + 3UL).
  6. Thievish Spot Details will not detect signs of life (such as breathing or a pulse) on Target.
  7. Target's D and RD are 0 (subject to Spells and Effects that modify D and RD and do not require him to be dodging) and he takes Damage normally (and will Bleed and can die from it, but feels no pain if Playing Dead).
  8. Target cannot come out of Hibernation / Playing Dead at will, but will do so if the Hibernate / Play Dead is Dispelled.
  9. Hibernate / Play Dead is a Hide Life Effect.  Incoming Spells that only affect living Beings will not affect Target even if their Casters know that he is actually alive, unless they have successfully Detected Life on him after all Hide Life effects currently affecting him had come into effect.
