The Seven Swords of Valdrea are Magic Broadswords Holy to SARAN borne by the Noble Champions of the Valdrean Empire. They first appeared on 24 Weven (Empire Day) of the Year 500, when they were given by SARAN to the First Emperor, Valder I, his son and his five closest companions on the foundation of the Empire. The Swords are widely believed to be Bound Angels of SARAN, with minds of Their own (which They will assert if Their wielders depart from the Path of Law). They are classified by sages amongst the major Artifacts of the Gods.
Over the years the Swords have assisted the rulers of the Empire to stay in power under a system where offices are open to challenge by duel, whilst helping to ensure that those rulers are predominately Paladins of SARAN.
By the early 2500s the Seven Swords are no longer amongst the most powerful Magic Weapons in circulation. But They retain Their power and prestige.
