You will find a horse dealer in every town or city in the Overworld where horses are used for transport. They may also be purchased from the locals in villages or at farms, but warhorses are only available from specialist dealers. Dungeon ponies are available for hire from Fort Venture (treat as mules), but not from Dwarf Hold. Dwarves do not use horses (preferring Giant Goats).
Horse racing is very popular in a number of Overworld towns and cities, particularly Hapral, Melidor, Torel, Yarmena, Tehmor, Vavistor and Kuntax, at the Badlander Spring Gathering, and at the Grasslander Autumn Gathering. Significant sums of money can be won and lost on these races. The highest prizes are on offer at the Kuntax Races, the biggest crowds and most betting occur in Tehmor and Hapral. Stud farms may be found near all these towns and cities. A winning racehorse is prized more highly than most magic items. (All races are policed vigorously to prevent the use of magic to interfere with the sport.)
Prices and availability may vary locally, but the following are typical. A range of prices is given, as there is usually a variety of specimens available. Horse dealers love to haggle, and these are the prices one might fairly agree after negotiation. The dealer's opening offer will be much higher!
Horse | Cost | Carrying Capacity (wt pts) |
Mule / Dungeon Pony | 6 to 12GP | 4000 |
Light Horse | 4 to 9GP | 3500 |
Medium Horse | 6 to 12GP | 4250 |

Heavy Warhorse | 50 to 100GP | 5000 |
Racehorse / Courier Horse | 50 to 10,000GP | 3250 |
Dealers will purchase horses for 1/2 to 2/3 of these prices (after haggling).
The cost of hiring mules / ponies in Fort Venture is 1SP per Caeriad per Mule plus 1CP per Caeriad per Mule for fodder plus 1CP per Caeriad per Mule Frame with 2 boxes. A deposit is payable of 10GP per Mule plus 1GP 6SP per Mule Frame with 2 boxes (refundable if returned alive / in good condition). At least one week (6 Cds) of hire must be paid upfront.

Oxen are used by farmers and to pull Caravan Trains. Theya are also widely used in the Underworld (especially by Orcs, who have a mutual dislike of Horses).

Camels are only available in the Great Desert, where they are especially prized by the Desert Nomads. A good Racing Camel can change hands for an equivalent price to a racehorse.
