Encounters in The Realm of Madness

The frequency for which Encounters are rolled should typically be in the range of every 1/2 hour to every 4 hours, depending on how actively Encounters are being sought / avoided (on both sides).

The probability of an Encounter will typically be (5 + Level of Madness)%.

The chance of an Encounter being a special Madness Encounter should be decided before the probability roll is made, and should typically be (Level of Madness)%.

E.g. the DM decides that a party in Level of Madness 4 have a 9% chance of an Encounter every 4 hours, with a 4% chance of a Madness Encounter.  So he rolls d100 for every 4 hours, with 92 to 100 resulting in an Encounter, of which 97 to 100 give a Madness Encounter.

If a non-Madnesss Encounter is rolled, use the applicable Encounter Tables for the closest environment in the Real World.  Note however that whatever is encountered will still be Insane at the current Level of Madness.

If a Madness Encounter is rolled, determine its type on Table K below.  This Table may also be used to generate Hallucinations of Encounters.
